Hameet ovat oikeastaan mukavimpia vaatekappaleita mitä tiedän. Se, mihin kaupan hameissa olen pettynyt, on pitkälle paksupolviselle naiselle väärä pituus, liika tätimäisyys, harppomisen estävä kapeus tai sitten yliampuva hörhelöisyys. Selkeys, hauskuus, reippaus ja naisellisuus - siinä toivereseptini lempihameelleni.
Kun kaupan valikoimista ei ole toiveitteni hamosta löytynyt, päädyin tekemään hameeni itse. Samalla tuli testattua

Wolli, joka kestää hyvin kulutusta ja on olemukseltaan karkean robusti, pesukoe pesukoneen villaohjelmallakin tuotti hienon tuloksen. Valitsemani ruskeanvihertävä sävy
Vilja tuo mieleen suomalaispeltojen kypsät ja syvät turpeiset maavärit ja näin talvella, heinät, kaislat, kivet ja puunrungot.
Hameessa käytetään Wolli-langan kahta vahvuutta. Varsinainen hame ja pieni 'tuluskukkaro' ovat paksumpaa Wollia, vyötärön kiristäjänauha on ohuempaa Wollia samassa sävyssä.
Hame on malliltaan maltillisesti viistottu "kuuden kaitaleen" hame, ja se neulotaan vyötäröltä alaspäin pyörönä (loin 136 s). Vyötäröllä on 7 cm korkea joustinneuleinen 2o, 2n -resori, jonka puolivälissä on 44 pujotusaukkoa vyönauhalle. Hameosa neulotaan sileänä neuleena pyöröneuleena kaikki krs:t oikein. Lisäyskohtia on 6/kerros, lopullinen silmukkamäärä on 186 s. Lisäykset eivät erotu neulepinnasta, ne tehdään neulomalla silmukka ensin etukautta ja sitten takakautta oikein. Helmaan tein pienen rimssun: 1o, 3n joustin laajenee vähitellen 7 o, 3n -rytmiin.

Skirts are, in fact, the most comfortable garments I know. What I have been disappointed about with skirts, is that I haven't been able to find any decent skirts in the shops. They're all either too short for a tall woman with fat knees, too ladylike, too narrow to let me stride about freely or just too prissy. When speaking of skirts, I opt for simpicity, fun, casuality and femininity.
When it became evident that the commerial skirt business cannot provide me with a skirt, I decided to make one myself. At the same time, the project gave an opportunity to test my Garment Designer -programme; what a great tool! The yarn is a Finnish wool & linen yarn called Wolli that is quite durable and has a nice, robust touch and look. Besides, a test spin in the washing machine's wool program turned out just fine. The chosen colour called Vilja (grain) reminds me of the ripe, autumny and peaty colours of the Finnish country landscape; or now in the winter time, the browns of reeds, stones, grass and tree trunks.
I used the two available thicknesses of the Wolli yarn. The skirt and the small purse attached is knitted with the sport/aran weight Wolli, the I-cord waist belt is knitted with the fingering weight Wolli in the same shade.
The design has very simple and basic 6-piece construction with modest increases towards the hem; the skirt is knitted in the round from the waist down (CO 136 sts). The waist is k2 p2 ribbing, height c. 7 cm, in the middle there's a row of 44 holes for the I-cord belt. The actual skirt is knitted with stockinette stitch (knit all stitches); there're 6 increase points; the final amount of stitches at the hem is 186. The KFB increases used are invisible. For a finishing touch, I did a frill at the hem: k1 p3 ribbing was broadened into k7 p3 rythm.
