Vielä yksi Alina / Yet another Alina Yarn: Novita Isoveli + stahsbusting with some Fritidsgarn, Malabrigo and Marks & Kattens Tova Needles: 8.0 mm Pattern: Alina Shawl by Merja Korhonen |
Christmas is such a peculiar season: sentimental, dark, busy, mysterious, and hectic. In my small circles, we've managed to transfer the glorious festivities of Christmas from a nerve-racking chaos into an oasis of serenity. Our small Christmas includes being together, some traditions, but very little compulsoriness. I descend into Christmas, day by day, lower and lower, deeper and deeper. And then begins a new cycle. Yesterday, it was the winter solstice, the darkest day of the year. Today, it is the first day of spring.
Honkarinteen suomenlammas Baby Finnsheep by Honkarinne Farm |
I sit down on the couch. My dear husband lights the fire in the fireplace and brings a jar of hot glühwein. The firstborn visiting home for Christmas is recording sounds of my late father's kantele. I cast on Jared Flood's Terra shawl. My yarn is purchased from Tuomas (St. Thomas) market at the Esplanade park in Helsinki City Centre; it's baby Finnsheep in natural black. Tomorrow, we shall roast two ducks and drink champagne. And we shall enjoy.
